Air Bag Safety For The Prevention Of Injury And Death Essay examples --
According to statistics, motor vehicle accidents are the number one leading cause of unintentional injury-related deaths, making up close to 45% and more than quadrupling all other causes. Although these statistics can be overwhelming knowing that driving a motor vehicle on a daily basis comes with a lot of risk, an individuals chance of injury can be lowered by following basic rules of safety. The American Trauma Society believes that the injury rate could be reduced by 50% if people would simply apply existing information about prevention. Wearing a seat belt while riding in a motor vehicle is by far the easiest way to prevent injury and death, and should be done anyhow because it is a federal law to do so. In addition to seat belts, motor vehicles are equipped with air bags, an automatic form of protection designed to reduce the risk of injury. In the past decade, air bags have saved the lives of close to 3,000 people. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) con ducted a study of real-world motor vehicle crashes and were able to conclude that the combination of seat belts and air bags is 75% effective in preventing serious head injuries and 66% effective in preventing serious chest injuries. Unfortunately for about 100 people in the past decade, their lives were saved at the expense of suffering a less severe injury caused by the air bag itself. However, when proper air bag safety is applied in conjunction of wearing a seat belt properly, most injuries ...

Mindfulness Worksheet Essay
Please use the information from your ââ¬Å"mindfulness conversationâ⬠to complete this worksheet. Submit this worksheet in the Module 1: Assignment 3 Dropbox no later than Day 7 of Module 1. Include vocabulary and concepts from your reading and course site to support and illustrate your own insights. In preparation for the papers youââ¬â¢ll write later in this course, take the time to organize your thoughts for each question and write clearly. Completed worksheet should be not more than three pages. 1. Describe who you had the conversation with and where. Only disclose what you are comfortable with. You can use initials or code names. I had this mindfulness conversation with a friend Iââ¬â¢ve had for a long time. I had the conversation at my house on the front porch. 2. How easy/hard did you find it to be mindful? Why? I find it very easy to be mindful this time one reason being that me and him knew each other since we were 12 and we connect like brothers and have a lot in common thatââ¬â¢s why I can be so mindful to him. 3. What did you notice during the moments when you were able to be mindful? How were you feeling? I noticed while being mindful that we have so much in common and we shared so many memorys for so many years. I felt very good listening to him because we are so close and it felt good to listen to what he had to say at those moments. 4. How did mindlessness ââ¬â both yours and the other personââ¬â¢s ââ¬â show up in the conversation? What affect did it have? Our mindfulness showed mine at first because I was only listening to him then him to me. It affected us by letting us know we can both be mindful and listen and learn from each other. 5. What 2-3 things did you learn about mindfulness? I learned that when you listen to someone they can teach you something everyone has a different perspective and view and deserve to be listened to. Next I learned that when you stop and be mindful to someone they will in return most likely be mindful to you. 6. What would help you be more mindful in your life? Identify 2 actions (i.e. new behaviors you can practice). How will these actions improve your interpersonal effectiveness? One thing that would help me be more mindful would be to learn about that person find out what we got in common and listen to them and then tell them what we have in common and share that with them. If I did this more often then I would definitely improve my interpersonal effectiveness because when you are more mindful then people will do the same to you and when people are mindful to each other then they will get along better and can teach each other more things about each other and about life in general.

Visit The Leepa Rattner Museum - 1233 Words
For my museum trip I chose to visit the Leepa-Rattner museum in Tarpon Springs. I have never been to an art museum before so I wasnââ¬â¢t quite sure what to expect. With that being said, I must admit I really found enjoyment from the distinctive emphasis that artists put within many of these images. Furthermore, it is truly amazing how you can gaze at a work of art and begin to establish an idea of the narrative being told within the image. The Leepa-Rattner museum is not very large, and it did not take very long to view everything that was on display. But to a great degree, I was fascinated with the workmanship and focus of many of the paintings. The museum was very beautiful, and the architecture was very well done as well. The building presents an image of a ship at sea. Additionally, I really valued the size of the museum, which is not huge, yet rather more personal and relaxed. I found a few of the works strong and persuasive, and the more diminutive size keeps things in pers pective. The first painting that really drew my attention was the full sized image by Picasso called Guernica. The proportion and balance of the painting is astounding. The scene portrayed in Guernica is a room filled with moving, shouting and anguished adults, and creatures. Also, I was told by someone at the museum one of the more fascinating parts of the piece, and that is that it is done in monochrome. Generally, Picasso was known for his energetic abstract and cubist works of art, so why did he

Hunger Artist Free Essays
Franz Kafkaââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"A Hunger Artistâ⬠was written in 1922. The short story is about a man who uses fasting (a form of art) as a sense of fulfillment to himself. The foods of life, were not to his liking. We will write a custom essay sample on Hunger Artist or any similar topic only for you Order Now Furthermore, his form of fulfillment was the sight-seeing and interaction with the fans. Fans were amazed by him. His ability to starve himself inside a ââ¬Å"â⬠¦small barred cageâ⬠(Kafka 9) was intriguing to most; everybody wanted to see him at least once a day. The time and place of the short story is unidentified. The process of the fast would usually last up until the forty day mark. The Hunger Artist is a man who starves himself, not because he couldnââ¬â¢t eat; it was because he craved the attention as seen in his last moments of life, when he tells a fan ââ¬Å"I couldnââ¬â¢t find the food I likedâ⬠(Kafka P. 9) meaning he couldnââ¬â¢t attain the satisfaction from his audience. As a reader we sense a form of confusion or darkness when reading the text. This form of satisfaction is far from bizarre.I would say, it is safe to say that each person has a personal interest that we like to do that one may find weird. Although it may be bizarre to some people. Most people came to see the Hunger Artist; ââ¬Å"At one time the whole town took a lively interest in the hunger artist; from day to day of his fast, the excitement mounted; everybody wanted to see him at least once a dayâ⬠(Kafta 5-7). We live in a society, where ââ¬Å"weirdâ⬠sparks great interest. This was the Hunger Artists form of satisfaction, he was a attention fiend, he was fueled by the masses of people coming out to see him.We can relate this to a toddler and his older siblings. When a child does something that causes a positive reaction or response by another person (usually someone older) they tend to insist on doing it again. Why? because physcologically, the toddler feeds from this attention, very similar to the Artist. The masses of people were amazed at the Hunger Artist. His one of a kind ability, amazed children ââ¬Å"[The] children stood open mouthedâ⬠(Kafka 14).People would come in anticipation to see this bizarre figure labeled as the ââ¬Å"Hunger Artist. â⬠His ââ¬Å"palid [body] in black tights, with his ribs sticking out ââ¬Å"(Kafta 16) were one of the many reasons why people would come with the family as a whole, to see this form of ââ¬Ëentertainmentââ¬â¢, if you will. Eventually, people who came to see the Artist in his fast, started to find this matter impossible. Fans took it so far that they felt a sense of obligation to see if the Hunger Artist was cheating or if this display was factual.Theââ¬Å"watchers who sat up to the bars, [were] the ones not content with with the dim night lighting of the hallâ⬠¦they focused on him in full glare of the electric pocket torch given them by the impresarioâ⬠(Kafka 47-49). We can relate this to a magician, people usually tend to see what the magician is doing to fool the spectator, but usually the spectator wont find out what the magician is doing to fool the overseer. In exchange the magician would feed off this attention and continue in his expertise, similar to the Hunger Artistsââ¬â¢ fasting. As time went on, like most things, the Hunger Artist lost his touch and people were loosing interest in the Hunger Artist. This lack of interest came about so suddenly. For meanwhile the aforementioned change in public interest [was] set in; it seemed to happen almost overnightâ⬠¦at any rate the pampered hunger artist suddenly found himself deserted one fine day by the amusement seekers who went streaming past him to other more-favored attractions;â⬠¦(Kafta 17-20) The fans easily forgout about the enduring Hunger Artist, and for that, he had to settle for a new location. He had to go to a circus where conditions were even harsher and people were not recognizing him anymore. No one recognized him anymore and all that he worked for was flushed down the drain. The artist was placed in the most isolated area of the circus in the dark, opposed to the heavenly light where he once was before he relocated to the circus. Suprisingly, one day an overseer who use to see the Hunger Artist in his prime passed by. He took a peek at the cage, out of curiousity, he recognized the Hunger Artist. The Artist felt a sense of guilt that he let down the fans and his reation to the overseer was ââ¬Å"Forgive me everybodyâ⬠(Page 276). As words were exchanged between the Hunger Artist and the ââ¬Å"overseerâ⬠, it led to the explanation of why the Hunger Artist doesnââ¬â¢t cherish the so called ââ¬Å"foods of life and tended to always fast for his sense of satisfaction from the attention. If I had found [the food I liked], believe me, I should have made no fuss and stuffed myself like your or anyone else. These were his last words, but in his dimming eyes there remained the firm though no longer proud persuasion that he was still continuing to fas t;â⬠¦(Kafta 10-14). We can say the Hunger Artist only wanted the fanââ¬â¢s attention and he admires the appreciation of Others. The foods of life werenââ¬â¢t enough for him because the fanââ¬â¢s presense were his ââ¬Å"nutritionâ⬠. One may question, ââ¬Å"Why is the Hunger Artist this way? What may his childhood be like? Was he deprieved of attention as a kid?I find it quite ironic that in the last moments of the Hunger Artists life, he is last seen with an overseer. The overseer was shocked to see him and still thought he was crazy now, just like he thought he was crazy when he used to see him in his prime. This craziness is what dragged the masses in his prime to come see him in his during his time of ââ¬Ëshineââ¬â¢ But now, that craziness has become a flaw and no one cared about him anymore. The attention he once craved has deminished. It is quite ironic that the author does this. Itââ¬â¢s like the Kafta wants the audience to know that in the end, even though the Hunger Artist has led to many overseers to label him as ââ¬Å"crazyâ⬠he will still be remembered and has gained the respect of many. In the end, the Hunger Artist comes to his downfall and dies. They bury him with hay straws and he is left with what he arrived with once he was placed in the circus. Itââ¬â¢s like the clock was ticking until his death call arrived and was replaced by a youthful black panther. Some people will never be understood in society. Some do amazing things and others do unsual things. In all honesty the Hunger Artist wasnââ¬â¢t looked at for his amazement. He was looked upon as unusual, but the Hunger Artist fed off this attention. People just love to be curious espically to unusual things, we like to judge people and he was judged to be crazy. All in all, it is safe to say that in us all, we seek attention, some more than others, and the Hunger Artist wanted just that. He was a attention fiend. How to cite Hunger Artist, Papers

Technology And Scarce Resources Samples â⬠MyAssignmenthelp.com
Question: Discuss about the Technology And Scarce Resources. Answer: Economic issues are generated by the scarcity of resources, which refers to a condition of availability of limited resources, where want or need of resources is high (Barnett and Morse 2013). These resources can be land, labour or economic resources. In order to sustain basic needs of us the scarcity of any resource needs to be reduced we can only achieve it by technological modifications or innovations. The natural resources like fresh water, oil, gas, coal, rare earth elements, Phosphorus are depleting due regular use of near about 7 billion people. The pressure on these limited natural resources creating a misbalance in the nature and environment. We can put a hold on this resource depletion is technology. Resource exploration and extraction are the effects of technological innovation in order to secure scarce resources. Resources can be properly monitored using advance technology so that the scarce resources can be identified and the problems due to scarcity can be solved. Techno logical innovations have provided us new methods of using renewable resources for our daily requirements or for bigger purposes (Smulders 2012). Non agricultural food, use of solar and wind energy for electricity replacing coal are some examples. Therefore, I can tell that technological change or innovations either modifies the ways of using scarce resources or show the ways of using renewable resources.
